Robert Fanuzzi, Ph. D., is Associate Provost and Director of Civic Engagement on the St. John’s University Staten Island campus. He is university lead for community partnerships, responsible for building educational bridges, academic programs, and research projects with the borough’s private, non-profit, and public sector. He is also a Professor of English and American Studies and author of two books and over thirty scholarly articles on the American antislavery movement, African-American civil rights, and publicly engaged higher education. Dr. Fanuzzi has won many university awards for his innovative teaching and academic leadership. In recognition of his efforts on behalf of Staten Island education, he was named a King of Staten Island in 2017.
A resident and longtime Bronx community leader, Fanuzzi is the former Chair of Bronx Community Board 8 and is currently serving as Chair of the Board of the Bronx Arts Ensemble and Vice Chair of the Bronx Council for Environmental Quality.
